Here, There and Everywhere: Best-Loved Stories of Sudha Murty

Life is incomplete without celebration.

Every day has a reason to be celebrated.

Celebration need not be grand and heavy, but just as simple as reflecting upon and rejoicing over your progress so far.

Here, There and Everywhere is Sudha Murty's 200th title published in celebration of her literary journey.

Overview

A wearer of many hats - philanthropist, entrepreneur, computer scientist, engineer, teacher, mother and storyteller extraordinaire.

The book is a collection of best-loved stories from Sudha Murty's previous books with the addition of two brand-new chapters. Some of these stories are from The Day I Stopped Drinking Milk and Wise and Otherwise

As a former trustee and the current chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, the author has encountered people from different backgrounds during her tours while working with the needy.

I find it very fascinating how she bumps into the same stranger twice!

Many of her stories revolve around the realizations she had had and the values she had learnt from the common man.

But her tales talk more at a deeper level.

She addresses pressing social concerns prevailing in our society.

One of those issues is breaking down gender stereotypes and empowering the female voice.

Some accounts of her experiences just touch the heart.

Others appreciate the richness of the food, culture and heritage of India.

Philanthropy is spotlighted often as it is a considerably vast slice of the author's life.

What should you expect?

You might find the writing style easy to follow as the flow of the relatively plain narration of the story is not too tangled with descriptions.

Sudha Murty once said in an interview that to read her books you do not need a dictionary. That is very true since I did not require a dictionary myself either.

But languages are used only to say the same thing in different ways. So I believe the message she wants to convey to her readers is much more important than the quality of the language she uses.

In fact, there are many instances in her stories where the author herself has communicated a thousand words with a warm smile, a hug or a simple act of kindness, which no language could express.

Worth buying?

I would recommend most of Sudha Murty's books to beginner readers and this book is no exception.

They are great first reads for readers of all age groups.
